Don't Think - Immersive Screening
Adidas Underground

Show Direction: Adam Smith
Production Company: ML Studio
Commissioner: Adidas Underground

Adidas commissioned an immersive screening of Don't Think, the Chemical Brothers concert film (which I also edited) for their series of Adidas Underground events.

The film was screened in a secret venue in London, and attendees (picked by a raffle system) were donned with matching Adidas tracksuit tops and clown make-up, which is a recurring theme in the visuals of the film.

As well as a main projection showing the film, we had an additional extra-wide projection to the side of it on which we made an edit of the concert visuals to sync exactly with the film. In addition to that, we made single figures and faces to be projected on to walls and columns around the venue, all in sync with the film and its soundtrack. The immersion was then amplified by the presence of lasers, strobe lights, the same giant balls that are dropped on the crowd during the song "Saturate" and two dance performances by the incredibly talented Marc Monero (again, in unison with his own performances in the film). It was quite the endeavour, but paid off magnificently.

In addition, the Chemical Brothers made a 60 min mix of their downtempo tracks to act as a warm-up before the film started. For this I edited a unique 60 minute set of visuals which was screened that night and have never been seen again. That's live events for you!
