Director: Lisle Turner
Writer: Emily White
Production Company: Open Sky Productions
Part of MicroPlays, a series of short digital plays made as a collaboration between Open Sky and some of the UK most exciting writers. I edited two of the films;
The Importance of Being Honest, and Homework.
The writers were asked to address the theme of cultural polarisation, questioning whether our differences have to divide us. The series was the brainchild of Open Sky’s Lisle Turner who directed all the finished plays for camera. The series was shot on location in and around Hereford.
Funded by Arts Council England National Lottery Funding, with financial support from Wrapt Films and The Elmley Foundation. Supported by Turtle Key Arts.
The Microplays project has won two digital culture network digitalcultureawards; for digital inclusion and the winner’s winner overall for 2021.
“Turbulent times can present an opportunity to challenge the status quo and drive innovation. Congrats to the small but mighty Winners Winner, Open Sky for engaging so many participants directly that wouldn’t normally be live theatre goers.”
Winners Winner judge, Kanya King CBE, CEO and founder of the MOBO Awards
“MicroPlays stood out for it’s combination of high production values, originality, it’s authentically authored voice and it’s significant audience reach, especially with traditionally excluded audiences.” Digital Inclusion Judge Andrew Miller MBE, Cultural Consultant, Broadcaster and Disability Champion
We received hundreds of submissions and thousands of votes in this year’s Digital Culture Awards, demonstrating the need to acknowledge and celebrate the creativity of our sector. Tiina Hill, Senior Manager, Digital Culture Network

— THE METRO
“Ingenuity twinkles throughout a bite-sized box set. A teasing half-hour of stylish snippets. ”
— THE STAGE
“MicroPlays tell vastly different stories. Each play is slick, performed well and articulate. If a project is attempting to cross over to a new theatre audience, I’m glad it’s one as fresh and high quality as this.”
