Film Director: Juriaan Booij
Commisioner: V&A Museum
Power of Making was a three screen film installation, directed and shot by Juriaan Booij, for an exhibition of the same name at the Victoria and Albert Museum. A collaboration between the V&A and the Crafts Council, the exhibition presented 100 crafted objects in a cabinet of curiosities that explored traditional and time-honoured ways of making, as well as innovations taking place around the world. 320,000 visitors made Power of Making the most visited free exhibition ever staged at the V&A, and the triptych film took pride of place at the centre of it.
The film was intended to work as a three-screen composition, but also as three single screen films in their own right, which made for a complicated edit, but it was extremely satisfying when I attended the exhibition to see people, without any instruction or hint to do so, watching screens individually close-up and then taking in all three from a distance. Very proud of this edit.
